How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Listening to music on YouTube,The Internet and watching music videos on TV were the biggest influence into giving me the idea for my video.I found that the more videos I watched,the more vast and diverse amount of ideas I saw therefore this gave me a number of things to think about when filming.I also had to think about the image I wanted to put across to the audience so I took alot of time in listening to similar genres of music and there videos and seeing how the way there ideas were generated could influence my own.I looked at artists such as Arctic Monkeys,Bloc Party and the Killers to try and condense my own ideas similar to what they had done.I obviously didn't want to copy there own images but looking at there work gave me the idea of my video.

The use of I-movie within school was also a massive help because I was able to put my own footage together and then play around within cutting it into my music video to get the syncing right.It took alot of research into artists previous work to ensure my own had its very own image and recognisable theme.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

The feedback I received from other students about my video was that its funny.I explained how I wanted to keep the handheld footage throughout as it was on-running theme throughout my video due to the style of the it.The problem i found when filming and my video was the length of the song and making sure I had enough footage for it.A recurring comment I was given was how I should of used more footage and tryed to use a selection of different camera angles and shot types.This is something i found difficult due to the context of my video.many people believed the initial idea for my video was very good but maybe more planning should of been put into lace to ensure the idea was made into a success.This is one part of the project that was a big downfall into why I struggled to find a constant on-going them within my video.The planning wasn't good enough so I found myself clutching at straws and trying them out before i could think of a detailed enough structure of work and a good enough idea.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I was extremely pleased with my final digipack and artist poster.This was the part of the project that took me the most time in getting it to look how I wanted it to look.I believe the digipack did suit my artists own image because I was the person who created it therefore in my own head it is there own style.If i look back upon the video and the digipack together I do feel that the colours I used within my digipack and posters were maybe not the best.Its only because using purple and black in my opinion gives the band a dark gothic image,something which they arenot so it may give audiences who see the work the wrong idea.Apart from the colour issue I feel that this part of my project was probably the best piece due to the amount of time I spent on it and the constant changes and decisions I had to make in order whether I thought it was the right idea.I would like to think that the image I have given my band is recognisable to their audience due to the look of the poster and digipack.Also the drawing that i made is used on both Digipack and poster so I like to think of it as the bands own logo or image.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

When choosing an idea for my music video,I wasn't sure whether to have something that was related to the song title or whether to using a random idea that I could stick with throughout the whole video.I found it hard in thinking of choosing a story to match my music video because of the lyrics.Therefore the normal conventions of a music video were somewhat thrown out due to this.Many music videos also include a performance based piece within the video from the band so I had to think of how I would include my bands performance in context of my music video.In the end I chose against using a performance piece due to finding a suitable place for it to be filmed I also had set out the idea of reversing my footage half way through the video so in this case there was no need for the performance piece to unnecessarily be forced into my video.Most music videos are used so that the footage is steady,maybe using a tripod but I always had the idea that I wanted to used a handheld camera throughout due to how I wanted to make my video look.

My Final CD Cover and Poster...

This is the final CD Cover for my artist.It has took a while to create because I stuck to one colour scheme and the images I used on the cover were my own photography so i had to arrange them in order and play around with how I used them.Overall I am happy with the final piece because there was a lot of effort put into making it and I feel the outcome looks good.

This is the final Artist poster which I have created on Photoshop.I wanted to keep it similar to the Cd Cover because it then helps me set out a reocurring theme amongst both the poster and the CD cover.This also creates audience recognition which if they see the poster then allows them to recognise the Cd cover and compare the two.In addition this may help in the sales of the album due to the poster well marketing the product,which in this case is the artist

These images I cropped because I wanted to change them and muddle the images up.As the images are of the band members I had the idea of having a bit of each members body in a mosaic type form to create a new image but when I finally done it,I wasnt happy with the final outcome so I decided to think of a new idea that would suit my digipack better.

Poster and Digipack Completion.

I am currently working on the finishing touches of my digipack CD cover adding the vital infomation such as music label info,copyright,and artisits infomation.After finishing this I will be designing a poster which will play a part in advertising and marketing the artists and the new debut album.It is important I stick to certain ideas ive had on my cd cover and process these onto my poster because I dont want them to contrast eachother and look like they should represent completely different bands.

These three images I have included here are my own images that I blocked out the colour using Photoshop.I have put these images on the inside cover of my digipack as these are the three band members.

Filming

Filming is under way.The opening shots are complete but we have had a slight problem with the continuity because the first day we filmed it was snowing so when we went back to film more I had to deal with the fact that the weather had changed and this is an obvious factor that can be seen throughout my shots.

Album Poster Analysis

As part of this project I have to create my own album poster so I thought it would be a good idea to analyse some existing posters to give me a view into ow they are created and based around there albums.

The first album poster I looked at is by Wretch 32.He is a british grime artist who's poster is advertising his debut album 'Wretchrospective'.The poster is focused on him in the centre of the page with the details of the album on top of him.The graphis used in the background are bright but overall the poster is dull.

Compared to this album poster by The Saturdays,this in my opinion is much better because of the colours used and the way the band are put across in the image.The different dress colours is a popular theme within the bands image and look and smething they have used throughout there time in the musical limelight.In my opinion this is a good poster because it sells there image and album very well.

This was the final Group image which I chose to use but then when it came to adding it to my Digipack, I had the idea of Stencilling each person out and adding block block to the shape of each band member,i then changed the colour effects and put each onto my inside album cover.

These are photos in which I took to use on my CD cover.I took individual shots of each band member before taking a group photo .There was also a couple of shots which went wrong because of distractions which I thought I would include on here aswel.

I created two Cd Covers on photoshop.I prefer the one using the white font because it makes it stand out .The Cover with the black font looks ok but is dull so i chose to keep it as part of my planning.

In Progress

Ive started storyboarding and making a moodboard for my music video,plus the creation of a digipack for the album cover,hence me not posting on here for a while.Things are going ok,its just a case of trying to get all my ideas and footage down so the video lasts for the entire song,if so i can look forward to filming within the next few weeks or so.

Name of my Band-Above Atelier


The current Atelier Method is a form of fine art instruction often modeled after the private art studio schools of 15th to 19th century Europe. Taking its name from the French word for "artist's studio," an Atelier consists of an artist, usually a professional painter or master working with a small number of students to train them in art. The word Atelier is also the the name of an artists studio or workroom.

I had the idea of using the word above meaning the band think they are above the master,not needed to be taught there profession.

The genre of the bands music is based around the Indie theme,which focuses on today's state of living.There music can be lively with a few of the songs be named as slow and depressing.

The band consists of three London based art college students all aged 22.All of them are male and from white English background.They are signed to Warner Music Group (UK).

There target audience are indie/Rock music fans aged from middle teens upwards.

All three lads are from Islington,North London who are in there last year at goldsmiths art college though there music careers is there main priority.They all met in there first year at College and started the band promptly.They consist of Graham Guitar and vocals,Callum bass and occasional keyboards and Mickey the drummer.Musical influences include early oasis and blur stuff plus Nirvana,Stone Roses and The clash. The band had played many gigs on site of there college competing in the Goldsmiths Battle of the bands 2008 in which 31 bands entered with them winning it.This is a major factor in them wanting to take there music further and try to turn themselves into a popular developed act.

There only accomplishment so far was to play on The NME new music stage at Glastonbury this year with there debut album due out late November.They released debut single 'Bold' On there myspace at the beginning of September with a CD LP release happening at the end of October.Press coverage has been minor though they have received columns in Both NME And Q magazine during the month of August.

Change of song(Again)

Right ive changed my mind yet again moving away from the klaxons song,Ive got it down to 4 songs I wanna do,Sing When your in love and Be Somebody by The Enemy,Angles by Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip and Halo by Bloc Party.I need to listen to each song a number of times before I Decide on what I choose.

My Official Song Choice

Right,Ive now decided on my song choice.Its going to be Atlantis to Interzone by Klaxons.A bit of a ravey dance Indie tune,so I'm going to have to give it a little thought of how I want to go about creating my music video.It has to be completely different to the original music video and I have a few random ideas floating about in my head so its now come to the point of putting these ideas down on paper,or in this case,The blog. Lets see what I can muster up within the next 48 hours or so.

There are a few artists I have thought about in great detail to use for my music video.I want to be able to get the balance right,something which is not too completed and in depth,but something which shows the audience a story throughout the video which may have a visible ending.

Jonas Åkerlund-Music Video Director

Jonas Åkerlund is a Swedish film director best known for making music videos.He was part of band Bathory in 1984 before he found fame as main video director for Swedish pop act Roxette.His other music video successes include Madonna,Metallica,Christina Aguilera,U2 and Pink.He is also had ago at designing and photography for the Roxette album Room service in 2001.He has collaborated with Madonna for a number of years now including working on the music video for single 'American Life' and directing her documentary film 'I'm going to tell you a secret' and her concert television special,The confessions tour:Live from London.His latest music video successes include the videos for 'paparazzi' by Lady Gaga,'We are golden' by Mika and the new Madonna single 'celebration'.

The Killers

The killers are an American Grammy-Award nominated and BRIT-Award winning alternative rock band from Nevada, who were formed late 2002. The band are made up of Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards), Dave Keuning (guitar, vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass guitar, vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (percussion, drums).

The group's First album, Hot Fuss (2004) brought the band mainstream success. The Killers' second album, Sam's Town, was released in 2006, and the compilation album Sawdust containing B-sides, rarities, and new material, was released in 2007. Their third studio album, Day & Age, produced by Stuart Price, was released in 2008.

The beginning of the band started in 2001 when lead singer Brandon Flowers met David Keuning after responding to an ad Keuning had left in a Las Vegas Newspaper.Keuning had originally thought of the lyrics and music for future hit, Mr.Brightside.The other two members of the band were later approached by Flowers and Keuning to join the band, named ‘The killers’ which comes from the bass drum of a fictional band in the music video for New Order song ‘Crystal.


Hot fuzz (2004)

The Killers released their album Hot Fuss in June 2004 in the United Kingdom and in the United States on Island Records. The band a had chart success with its singles "Mr. Brightside", which reached the Top 10 in the UK when released,and "All These Things That I've Done". There biggest hit was the re-release of "Somebody Told Me".

The album was nominated for five grammy awards,and since has acheived worldwide sales of over 7.5 million units.

Sam's Town (2006-2007)

The bands second album 'Sams Town' was released inOctober 2006 under island def jam music group.The album sold over 760,000 copies in its first week of release with a number two debut on the U.S billboard chart.The album produced four singles.These were:

'When You Were Young'
'Bones'
'Read My Mind'
'For Reasons Unknown'

The first single,'When You Were Young' was the albums highest position entry in the UK chart reaching number two.In 2007 The killers antended the Brit awards claiming Best international group and best international album.In June of the same year they headlined Glastonbury.

During a year of not being the limelight,whilst working on there 3rd album,the band released a compilation album called sawdust,made up of B-sides,rarities and new material.They also released a cover of version of Joy Division's 'Shadowplay' on the american Itunes store.



Day & Age (2008)

The Killers released 3rd studio album 'Day & Age on the 24th November 2008.The first single off the album 'Human' had been relaeased two months before the album in september.The second single was released as a download in early november in the US before being put onto vynyl and CD a month later.thye also had successes with singles 'The World We Live In' and 'A Dustland Fairytale',with the former given more publicity and recognition.

The album debuted at number one in the UK album charts selling over 200,000 copies in its first week.It has since gone 3x platinum in the UK for selling over a million copies.To date it has sold over 2.6 million copies worldwide.
